KHATOON SHAIKH – MAHARASHTRA
Khatoon Shaikh is the convener of the Maharashtra Unit of BMMA. She has done her 12 class from SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai and has also done Para Professional Course in Social Work from Yashwantrao Chavan Prathisthan, 2000.
She has been in the forefront in organizing Muslim women in the slum communities of Mumbai through Hukook-e-Niswan Sanghatan since 1995 and has been the convener of BMMA since 2007. She was the Special Executive Officer from 2001-2006.   
She is the Director of Ashana Trust which was formed in 2010 to support the activities of BMMA. She is a member of Prime Ministers New 15-Point programme and advocates for the rights of Muslim women through different government forums. She is also a member of Muslim Samanvay Samiti. She has received the Rajiv Gandhi Award from YUVA Foundation, the National Education Award, Achyut Rao Apte Award, Savitri Bai Phule Award, the Usman Khairuddin Society Award, Young Committee Award and the Shahir Amar Shaikh Puraskar.
She is a counselor and Legal Aid Advisor of Mahila Shakti Mandal since 1995. She has worked as Development Worker and Community Organizer on women’s issues in Women’s Research and Action Group, 2001 2008. She is the initiator of Federation of Muslim women’s groups called Hukook-e-Niswan Mahila Sanghatana, 2003. She has been organizing Muslim women in Maharashtra since 2007 as Convener of Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan. She is also a member of the Zopadpatti Police Panchayat and also a member of the Mohalla Committee Movement Trust for maintaining communal harmony in the community. She has worked as social worker in Anjuman Ikhwatul Islam for 5 years
